Our Story
Hoosier Associates, Inc. was established on January 1, 1956 when Joe Schoen and his son John purchased the Nicely Agency. The original office was located in the building next to the State Bank of Oxford. Besides selling personal and commercial insurance, they also acquired their real estate licenses and began selling homes in and around Oxford. In May of 1979 John’s son, Jim, graduated from DePauw University and started working full time for the agency. While in college he spent three summers helping out in the agency along with selling real estate.
During the summer of 1989, Hoosier Associates, Inc. opened an office in Boswell thus establishing its first branch location. The next expansion came in December, 2006 when Hoosier Associates purchased Freeland, McGinnis, Lauerman of Fowler.
The building was extensively remodeled and opened for business in May of 2007. In January 2010, the next purchase took Hoosier Associates out of Benton County and into Newton County with the purchase of PNS Agency in Kentland. Hoosier Associates, Inc. has welcomed the addition of two of Jim’s three sons. In June of 2010, Blake, the oldest son, came back to Oxford making him the fourth generation Schoen in the agency. Blake had been a Special Education Teacher in the Westfield School System and a graduate of Saint Joseph College. In July 2013, Taylor, Jim’s youngest son, joined the agency after graduating from Indiana Wesleyan University with a degree in Business Management and Business Administration.
